Who Are We?
We are pipe band drummers, teachers and music enthusiasts who have been around pipe drumming since the 1960s and 70s. Hugh Cameron was the original founder, starting in 1974 with the first-ever North American retail business based solely on pipe band drumming products. Doug Stronach continues the retail aspect of the business as Custom Drum Sound.
Hugh Cameron and Doug Stronach are also two well-renowned pipe band drumming teachers, who are still actively teaching today. Our third member, Noreen Douglas, looks after all of our inventory and accounting needs.
Our Customers:
We sell and service drums to the Canadian military, cadets, police, fire and civilian bands, as well as individuals all over North America. We also sell products that we manufacture and products that we distribute to other pipe band dealers in the US, UK and Canada. Discounts:
Absolutely: bands, leading drummers and teachers who buy regularly from us retain a discount on most products. Please send a note through our contact page if you’d like to setup an account with us.
Stock:
We have one of North America’s largest inventory of drums and drum products (see our catalog or online shop for more information). Most items are either in stock or on rotating order with our suppliers and set to arrive periodically throughout the year. We sell Premier drums, Andante drums, Kilpatrick carriers and accessories, TyFry tenor mallets, Hosbilt slings as well as many other popular brands.
Service & Support:
We have full service and support for our products. All drums are inspected, setup and initially tuned before shipping. Repairs and service to existing drums are also part of our commitment to you. Please get in touch if you need help servicing or repairing your equipment. We have an extensive parts inventory that dates back to the HTS200 model (1987) and earlier.
Why are you called Custom Drum Sound?
Custom Drum Sound began life as a name associated with Doug And Hugh’s custom drum products. Those products included the lightweight Conversion Drum, custom bearing edge and snare bed modifications, custom shells and shell wraps, top snare modifications, drum tuning, educational books and CDs as well as snare drum and bass drum sticks. Those products are now part of the combined manufacturing, distribution and retail company known as CDS.
